Description:

When starting your scuba journey is important to realize that this is sport, rather than a vacation activity. Scuba diving can be really exciting and fun. It can also be very scary and nerve wracking. We urge you to please try a certification class with the pool sessions to begin (at all). SCUBA DIVING IS NOT FOR EVRYONE. It is an activity rooted in safety and exploration. The gear will cost a good chuck of change.

Reminders:
-
Voice yourself - if you are not feeling up to it or the scene doesn't look safe. It is better to call it then to risk you or your buddy's life prepare snacks to have in the car after because I was super hungry from using all my energy to focus on our skills test (if you are doing certification classes). Drink tons of water after!
-
BUY A HOOD. It was wayyyyyy cold (bearable) but we bought ours right after because it wasn't too fun without them. You loose most of your heat from your head.
-
Breath and blow bubble through your mouth. I thought I was great in the pool, but the ocean was a different story. She is relentless and doesn't care. I slightly panicked and sniffed in water which cause we to ascend quickly which is a no no ( 30ft per min to prevent lung over expansion). While on your way up, if you're a nose breather, Do breathwork through the mouth. My husband found it helpful and did really well.
-
HAVE FUN, if anything hurts or your scared. Stay up and tell your buddy and instructor. It is really fun even though it was slightly rough. SPEAK UP IF YOU NEED TO. Everyone was super kind and understanding when I came up bc I freaked a little and they made sure I was good and asked if I wanted to go back down. I did, and it was AMAZING.

Tips::
-
Drink warm water
-
Dress warm too. It will help with retention of body heat to keep you warm in the water. peeing in your wet suit in the cold ocean can make you loose faster heat bc your body will be like "ahhhhh that's warm" but in a couple mins you'll feel colder bc the warmth from the pee made you body think to release heat.
-
Stretch After - use a good amount of abs and legs
-
Always Plan your dives - this is a must no matter what. Meaning you must always track prior to diving -

We searched other dive shops in San Diego and the rough estimate to begin an Open Water Diver course is about $700 to being (course only - not including class materials). The Groupon and driving from San Diego to Lake Forrest was the most cost efficient way to enjoy scuba (for us).
